Some Important Questions

This week, let's explore a few important questions every business owner should ask about their bookkeeping.

Over the years, I've found that many business owners see bookkeeping as little more than a necessary chore—or worse, an unnecessary expense. In reality, accurate bookkeeping is one of the best investments you can make in your business. It gives you the financial insight to make informed decisions, manage cash flow, plan for growth, and be prepared if the IRS ever comes calling.

Your answers to these questions can uncover opportunities to strengthen your business, avoid costly mistakes, and build a stronger financial foundation. Share your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to hear from you.

1. What's the biggest bookkeeping challenge your business faces?

Whether it's keeping up with transactions, reconciling accounts, staying organized for tax season, or simply finding the time, every business faces bookkeeping challenges.

What's your biggest challenge? Share it in the comments. You may find you're not alone—and I may be able to help.

2. How often do you review your financial reports?

Your financial reports tell the story of your business—but only if you review them.

How often do you look at your Profit & Loss Statement, Balance Sheet, or Cash Flow Report?

  • Weekly

  • Monthly

  • Only at tax time

  • Honestly...never

Regular reviews help identify trends, improve cash flow, control expenses, and support better business decisions. If your reports don't make sense, I can help.

3. Have you reconciled your accounts this month?

If not, you're not alone. Monthly reconciliations catch errors, identify missing transactions, help prevent fraud, and keep your financial reports accurate.

Don't wait until year-end to catch up. Need help getting your books back on track? Let's talk.

4. What's one financial goal you're working toward this quarter?

Whether you're increasing profits, improving cash flow, reducing expenses, paying down debt, or simply gaining a clearer financial picture, your bookkeeping should support your goals.

Share your goal in the comments. Accurate books make it easier to measure progress and make informed decisions.

5. If you could improve one part of your bookkeeping process, what would it be?

Would you improve:

  • Staying caught up

  • Organizing receipts and expenses

  • Managing cash flow

  • Financial reporting

  • Tax reporting preparation

  • Something else

Tell me in the comments. Sometimes a few simple changes—or the right bookkeeping partner—can save hours each month and give you greater confidence in your finances.
